DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) is many things, even when the discussion is limited to the broadband space. For some people it is a technology; other see it as a solution; supporters of Network Neutrality see it as the enemy; Broadband operators consider it as a must-have tool for proper network management; Security vendors are proud to offer it as part of their solution suite.
Analysts are predicting a very bright future for DPI. Last week Infonetics Research published a report saying that “ .. the market for standalone DPI products to grow rapidly, reaching $1.5 billion worldwide by 2013 ..” So what is DPI?
