Verizon, AT&T, TWC and Qwest, supported by the NCTA, CTIA, USTA, TIA and ITTA sent an open letter (here) to Julius Genachowski, FCC chairman asking not to classify broadband service as a “telecommunications service” (i.e. forcing Net Neutrality) as this "would be a profound mistake with harmful and lasting consequences for consumers and our economy".
The main arguments are:
- The Commission’s Bipartisan Treatment Of Internet Access As A Title I Information Service Has Produced Huge Benefits For American Consumers
- There Is No Factual Or Legal Basis For Classifying Broadband Internet Access Service As A Title II Telecommunications Service
- Classifying Internet Access As A Title II Telecommunications Service Would Have Negative Consequences Across The Entire Internet Ecosystem
