CEO: "Procera is the only company that delivers Internet intelligence"; Who is the $20M Mega-Carrier?

Procera Networks published its Q2 results and (revenues: $17.8M - here) and a number of impressive announcements, including a several new orders and a deal with Tata Communications ("chosen its PacketLogic Intelligent Policy Enforcement (IPE) systems to enhance its mobile network operator (MNO) managed services portfolio" here. See also "Tata Communications Builds Hosted Policy Management and Enforcement w/Allot and Openet" - here).

During the earning call, some additional information and analysis was provided by the management team:
  • Guidance- "We are reiterating our guidance for an annual revenue growth of at least 30% for 2013".

  • On Network Intelligence - "Combined with our ContentLogic product, Procera is the only company that delivers Internet intelligence. Where the competition is offering non-IPE add-ons to enhance their value, we continue to deepen our core technology and offer a compelling vision for the future, while partnering with companies that offer best-in-breed add-ons.
  • On Tata deal - "We expect Tata will be delivering the Procera IP system's ability to quickly offer revenue-generating services. This win was a competitive displacement, and this service will open up markets that Procera is not directly addressing today in emerging markets where we did not have sales or partnership footprint"
  • Openet relations (see "Openet and Procera Partner to Offer Integrated PCRF/PCEF Solution" - here) - "We have a number of joint customers today and expect the partnership to grow"
  • Mysterious Mega-Carrier - "we were selected by a Western European mega-carrier late last year. The opportunity has expanded since we originally were selected .. In Q3, we expect to begin to recognize revenue from a large deal with a mega-carrier .. we've characterized the size of this kind of opportunity in the $20-plus million over a 3-year period .. hardware and software only".

Tata Communications Builds Hosted Policy Management and Enforcement w/Allot and Openet

Tata Communications announced " the world's first cloud-based policy management solution that enables mobile network operators (MNOs) to create differentiated mobile data services quickly and with significantly less capital investment. .. Developed in partnership with Allot Communications and Openet, Tata Communications' Hosted Policy Engine allows MNOs to move beyond flat-rate data packages to deliver targeted data service offers for new revenue streams".

"The Hosted Policy Engine is a pre-integrated policy management solution, which enforces traffic optimisation and monetisation policies in real-time, based on subscriber usage patterns across 2.5G, 3G, 4G and WiFi networks. This allows mobile operators to create targeted service packages to optimise network resources and revenue through tiered service plans for customers. The capital investment needed in a dedicated policy management approach has proved either cost-prohibitive, or lacked the flexibility needed to keep up with mobile broadband demand. Consequently, a large number of MNOs do not have effective policy management tools in place. Based on Openet's Policy Charging and Rules Function, and Allot Service Gateway, the Hosted Policy Engine means MNOs can now implement policy management cost effectively"

John Landau (pictured), SVP, Technology and Services Evolution, Tata Communications said: “Our goal with the Hosted Policy Engine is to provide a pre-integrated best-of-breed policy engine that delivers economies of scale for MNOs thanks to our cloud-based approach. It offers the benefits of market leading solution components, but with significantly less capex investment and no support requirements, opening up this solution to a large number of MNOs currently without satisfactory policy management"

Allot and Openet announced the project as well - See "Allot Communications Selected by Tata Communications to Provide Hosted Policy Management Services" - here and "Openet Partners with Tata Communications and Allot to Deliver Hosted Policy Engine" - here.

VAS/Security Deployments[89]: Tata Uses Arbor for DDoS Protection

Tata Communications launched ".. its network-agnostic Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection, globally. Delivered over a cloud-based infrastructure, Tata Communications’ DDoS Detection and Mitigation services will now be available to any enterprise that depends on its internet availability .. The DDoS solution from Tata Communications constantly monitors traffic patterns across a network, detects attacks against a customer’s internet-facing infrastructure and then ‘scrubs’ the data, discarding attack traffic while ensuring that legitimate traffic can reach the intended infrastructure. .. To meet the needs of its diverse customer segments, Tata Communications offers several pricing structures so that customers can achieve their preferred balance of protection in relation to suitable cost"

Colin Doherty, President, Arbor Networks said: "We are delighted that Tata Communications has leveraged the Arbor Networks infrastructure to offer a network agnostic option for DDoS protection .. With DDoS attacks being such a real threat to businesses and countries around the world, all efforts to expand the number of anti-DDoS solutions available are extremely welcome.”
