EU Commission Launches Consultation on Net Neutrality

"Consulting the public on Network Neutrality" is becoming a popular act- after UK ("Ofcom: Traffic Management and ‘net neutrality’" - here) , France ("Net Neutrality in France - "we need some regulation" - here) and Germany ("Net Neutrality Discussion in Germany" - here) now comes the EU.

The commission published a document - "Public consultation on the open internet and net neutrality" (here) and a "Questionnaire for the public consultation on the open internet and net neutrality in Europe" (here). Brief browsing shows a close resemblance to the other documents.

See the press release here. Vice-President Neelie Kroes said: "I am committed to keeping the internet open and neutral. Consumers should be able to access the content they want. Content providers and operators should have the right incentives to keep innovating. But traffic management and net neutrality are highly complex issues. I do not assume that one approach or another should prevail. We need input from all sides so we can examine all the issues carefully, in a very objective way, strike the right balance between all the interests involved and work out what new measures, if any, may be needed."

We now wait impatiently to Q4, when all these regulation bodies will conclude their processes ... (or will follow the FCC - see "FCC: We Are Going With Net Neutrality" - here).
