FCC: We have a "Bill Shock" Problem

  

The FCC published a new white paper on bill shock (here), providing statistics on complaints received by the FCC.

Key statistics from the white paper show that:
  • 764 people complained to the FCC about wireless bill shock in the first half of 2010.
  • 67% of those complained about amounts of $100 or more.
  • 20% had complaints of $1000 or more.
  • The largest complaint received during this time was for $68,505.
The paper tells the story of few complaints, highest is - "$8,553. The consumer had the service for almost eight months and was never previously charged more than $59 a month. Consumer says they were not shown how to check usage,and then received this bill for internet usage."
