Lightreading: Elisa is in RFP process for DPI/Policy Management

Lightreading says today that Elisa is "which has nearly 3.3 million mobile customers in Finland, including more than 900,000 3G users, is looking to source deep packet inspection (DPI) and policy control systems to help manage its growing volumes of mobile data traffic" in an RFP process and "it's  not likely to be too long before Elisa's new policy management supplier is known, however, because the operator wants to select a vendor by the end of this year, according to Elisa's head of access networks Eetu Prieur"

Earlier this year, NSN announced that Elisa is using its radio gear for QoS based service differentiation
(here). Now the goal is to add policy management and the abilityto accurately identify applications, such as P2P.

  1. Your blog has been totally helpful....
I want to know though - How does sandvine rate when compared with rival DPI vendors e.g Qosmos, Allot,

Who would you say (if any) is the leader of the DPI vendors?

  2. The only way to judge this objectively would be by the financial results. 3 of the pure players - Allot, Procera and Sandvine are public companies. Q3 results are due soon - (Sandvine already published its own) but I think that Q2 provide a good indication, that won’t change much in Q3.

  3. Also remember that privately-held Qosmos is a pure-play vendor of embedded DPI software. This is different from Allot, Procera and Sandvine who all sell complete solutions to service providers. Qosmos doesn't sell to service providers; they sell their DPI software to equipment vendors and ISVs. Therefore, Qosmos is not competing against Allot, Procera or Sandvine. These companies could even be Qosmos customers.

  4. Just to inform you that I posted the last comment on Qosmos. Different from the first "anonymous".
