Huawei's SMART MBB

Huawei has revamped its web site, and among other things added a short overview of its "Smart MBB" (Mobile Broadband) concept - "Our solution can effectively measure, manage and enhance QoS and QoE for mobile broadband services. By enhancing bandwidth efficiency and customer experience, we help operators build up their competitive edge in MBB".

"Huawei’s smart QoS solution supports three flexible DPI (deep packet inspection) deployment models, various levels of inspection, and an independent signature database to help operators identify unknown service types ..  Huawei PCRF (Policy and Charging Rules Function) can decide policy with ten triggers flexibly, and support 12 typical scenarios including FUP (fair usage policy) and family quota sharing .. Finally, the network should be able to execute the QoS policy in an excellent way. Here, the radio access network is the key. Huawei has adopted four wireless scheduling algorithms, two traffic control mechanisms and two levels of traffic shaping to assure the QoS execution".

See "Smart MBB" - here.

In a white paper by Cai Liqun (picture), President of Huawei Core Network Product Line, "Smart Mobile Broadband Manage Your Bit Business" - here we get some more details about the actual products:

"SMART MBB is composed of a suite of solutions based on practical requirements such as: the Smartphone solution to deal with signaling storms; the E2E QoS solution to improve user experience; the SMART content delivery solution to improve video experience and increase revenue; and the SMART offload solution to offload low-value throughput. These solutions will evolve as network requirements and services change".
