Intelligent Merger: EZchip to Acquire Tilera for $130M

EZchip Semiconductor announced that it has "..signed a definitive agreement to acquire Tilera Corporation, a privately-held US-based company that develops high-performance multi-core processors, intelligent network interface cards and white-box appliances for data-center networking equipment .. under the terms of the agreement, EZchip will pay Tilera’s stockholders up to $130 million in cash; of which $50 million is payable at closing and up to an additional $80 million is payable subject to the attainment of certain future performance milestones.

EZchip currently expects the acquisition to be neutral to slightly dilutive in 2014 and accretive in 2015 to earnings per share on a non-GAAP basis. Following the closing, Devesh Garg, the CEO of Tilera, will serve as EZchip’s President in charge of all US operations.

The acquisition represents a significant move for EZchip. In particular .. Doubles EZchip’s total available market (TAM): To $2 billion, consisting of NPUs, multi-core CPUs, smart network adapters and appliances, for the data-center and telecom markets [related chart below, from November 2012]

• Elitecore introduces Passpoint-enabled Hotspot 2.0 and ANDSF support in its Wi-Fi Service Management Platform (here): "Elitecore Technologies announces that its SMP is ready to support PasspointTM certified Hotspot 2.0, an approach introduced by Wi-Fi Alliance for public access Wi-Fi to provide secure Wi-Fi access (Access Network Delivery Selection Function) from a list of Wi-Fi networks available for the client devices. Hotspot 2.0 complies with industry standards, which provides better bandwidth and seamless experience to alleviate mobile carrier traffic overheads. Tilera and Qosmos Offer Integrated DPI Solution

Tilera Corporation and Qosmos announced the ".. availability of high-performance integrated solutions for Software-Defined Networks (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), combining TILE-Gx processors with the Qosmos ixEngine software development kit.

The solution leverages Tilera’s TILE-Gx processor family [here] with devices ranging from 9 cores up to 72 cores as well as hardware platforms such as the TILEncore-Gx™ PCI Express card and TILEmpower-Gx™ 1RU appliance. Scalable options for performance levels are available from 1Gbps for economical gateways to 40Gbps for high end appliances, all utilizing Tilera’s Multicore Development Environment™ (MDE) software tool suite with a standards-based Linux and C/C++ programming environment.

Qosmos ixEngine, the most widely deployed DPI engine globally, identifies and extracts information traveling over networks in real time, providing a true picture of the traffic by identifying protocols, types of application, and extracting additional information in the form of metadata".

It seems that many consider the first day of MWC to be the best day for press releases. I am not sure about that. With the load of press releases in one day, the attention for each is naturally lower.

DPI Announcement: Tilera 50 Gbps Network Intelligence 2U Linux Server

         

Tilera announced the ".. the highest performance network intelligence Linux server solution, at a whopping 50 gigabits per-second. The solution runs Qosmos [see here] technology software stack on the Tilera-based S2Q server, available from Quanta Computers. The server combines up to eight Tilera TilePro64™  [see chart below] processors into a 2U form factor, enabling dramatically increased performance in a standard Linux environment. Other solutions in the market today require exotic ASICs which are hard to program or expensive high-power servers to achieve the same performance".
